Best Suitcase Scale for Heavy and Light Bags
A common question that we get asked is ‘which is the best suitcase scale for both heavy and lightweight bags’? This is a very good question and one that deserves to be put in front of as many passengers as possible.
Whilst there are many good luggage scales to choose from there are very few that are actually up to doing the job. It is very tempting to buy the cheapest scale but the chances are you are creating a headache for yourself further down the line. Sites such as EBay are stuffed with cheap, unbranded and quite frankly useless digital luggage scales. We have heard some real horror stories from customers who had bought the cheapest scale possible only then to find they didn’t work, weighed incorrectly and they still got stung for excess baggage charges.
Mechanical Scales – A waste of money
The whole idea of a suitcase scale is to accuratley weigh your baggage and its contents to avoid being over your luggage allowance. Unfortunately, many people still think it sensible to buy cheap mechanical scales such as these. These spring loaded scales are the type where the needle bounces from left to right at great speeds making it impossible to gauge the reading with some accuracy.
Feedback from the owners of this type of scale is not good. In a great number of cases the needle is not zeroed correctly and there is no way of resetting it to zero. Weights could typically be out by 2kg to 3kg.
Digital Scales – Definitely worth buying
Some of the biggest brands in the world of travel and retail suggest that you only buy a digital suitcase scale – we agree with this too. The majority of digital scales available are accurate to within 50g (although you can view readings in lbs and oz too) and can be zeroed at the touch of a button. The handy back light feature of many digital scales means that you can easily read the weight displayed. Great product and a must buy.
